Add Two High-Current Outputs to Your DCC-EX System

Expand a compatible DCC-EX command station with the EX-MotorShield8874, providing two additional high-current track outputs rated at up to 5A per channel.

Designed specifically for DCC-EX, the EX8874 uses efficient DRV8874 motor drivers and provides current sensing and short-circuit protection for reliable operation on larger or more demanding layouts.

The two outputs can be configured through DCC-EX TrackManager to suit your layout, including Main and Programming track operation or two Main track outputs.

When added to the CSB1, the EX8874 expands the command station from two outputs to four, providing additional channels C and D for extra track sections or power districts.

Important for CSB1 users: The EX8874 requires an additional suitable power supply to provide track power to channels C and D. The CSB1 power supply continues to power channels A and B.

Please note: This product is the EX-MotorShield8874 only. A CSB1 or other compatible command station and power supply are not included.

Expand your DCC-EX command station with two additional high-current track outputs using the EX8874 Motor Shield. Each output can provide up to 5A, making the EX8874 suitable for larger layouts, additional power districts and flexible track configurations.

When used with the CSB1, the EX8874 adds channels C and D alongside the CSB1’s existing A and B outputs, creating a four-channel DCC-EX system. A separate power supply is required for the EX8874 when used with the CSB1.

Track outputs can be configured through DCC-EX TrackManager according to the requirements of your layout, providing a straightforward way to expand an existing DCC-EX system without replacing your command station.

Do I need to change the CSB1 configuration to use the EX8874?

Yes. DCC-EX must be configured for the additional EX8874 outputs. ACI provides a default 4-channel CSB1 + EX8874 configuration which can be installed using EX-Installer.

Can the EX8874 be used with a CSB1 Ready-to-Run?

Yes, the EX8874 is electrically compatible with the CSB1 Ready-to-Run. However, the standard Ready-to-Run case does not have sufficient space to accommodate the EX8874, so a different enclosure arrangement is required.

Does the EX8874 require a separate power supply when used with the CSB1?

Yes. When used with the CSB1, a second suitable DC power supply is required to power the EX8874 and provide power to the additional C and D track outputs.

What does the EX8874 add to a CSB1?

The EX8874 adds two additional high-current track outputs to a CSB1, allowing a correctly configured system to provide four independently controlled outputs.

Can I use the EX8874 with the CSB1 Builder Edition?

Yes. The EX8874 is electrically compatible with the CSB1 and can be used to add two additional track outputs. The open mounting arrangement of the Builder Edition also avoids the enclosure space limitation of the CSB1 Ready-to-Run case.

Can I use this power supply with the EX8874?

Yes. A 15V 5A power supply can be used to power the EX8874. When an EX8874 is used with a CSB1 to provide additional C and D track outputs, the EX8874 requires its own power supply.
