Ready-to-Run DCC-EX Control for Your Model Railway

The DCC-EX CSB1 Ready-to-Run Command Station gives you a complete, assembled DCC control system without the need to build your own command station.

Powered by an ESP32 with built-in Wi-Fi, the CSB1 provides two configurable high-current track outputs together with USB-C and I²C connectivity for expansion and layout automation.

Your CSB1 is supplied assembled in a protective enclosure with a 1.3" OLED display, ready for you to connect to your layout and configure with DCC-EX CommandStation firmware.

Control your trains wirelessly using compatible Wi-Fi throttles such as Engine Driver, or connect through USB-C for configuration and diagnostics.

Choose your power option: Select the supplied 15V 5A power supply for a complete package, or choose No PSU if you already have a suitable power supply.

Need additional track outputs? The CSB1 can be expanded with the EX8874 Motor Shield to provide two additional high-current outputs.

The CSB1 Ready-to-Run Command Station is designed for modellers who want the flexibility of DCC-EX without having to assemble a command station from separate boards and components.

It arrives fully assembled with a 1.3" OLED display and protective enclosure, ready to connect to your model railway. Built-in Wi-Fi allows compatible phones, tablets and computers to be used as wireless throttles, while USB-C provides straightforward access for configuration and maintenance.

The CSB1 works with standard DCC-equipped locomotives and provides a flexible platform that can grow with your railway. Additional DCC-EX accessories, servo controllers, sensors and automation can be added later without replacing the command station.

For most modellers who simply want to connect a system and start running trains, the Ready-to-Run version is the easiest CSB1 option.

Is the CSB1 ready to use out of the box?

Yes. The CSB1 Ready-to-Run command station is supplied assembled and configured with DCC-EX CommandStation software. Connect the appropriate power supply and your track, then use a compatible throttle such as Engine Driver or a computer-based application to control your railway.

What power supply does the CSB1 require?

The CSB1 accepts a 10–25V DC input. When the 15V 5A power supply option is selected, it is suitable for typical OO, HO and N gauge DCC layouts. If No PSU is selected, a suitable regulated DC power supply must be provided separately. Higher track voltages may be appropriate for larger scales.

Does the CSB1 support Wi-Fi?

Yes. The CSB1 has built-in Wi-Fi using its ESP32 processor, so no additional Wi-Fi hardware is required. It can connect to your home network or operate using its own Wi-Fi access point, allowing compatible wireless throttles such as Engine Driver to connect directly to the command station.

What model railway scales and gauges can I use with the CSB1?

The CSB1 Ready-to-Run command station is suitable for DCC model railways across the commonly used scales and gauges, from Z and N gauge through TT, OO, HO and O gauge. The standard 15V power supply is suitable for most applications, while larger scales such as O gauge may benefit from a higher track voltage where appropriate.

The CSB1 Ready-to-Run is not recommended for G scale, where the higher voltage and power requirements are better served by a system specifically configured for large-scale operation. As with any DCC system, the voltage limits specified by locomotive and decoder manufacturers should always be observed.

What throttles can I use with the CSB1?

The CSB1 gives you several choices for controlling your railway, so you are not tied to a particular handset or device.

Dedicated physical Wi-Fi throttles that support the WiThrottle protocol can be used for traditional handheld control.

For phones and tablets, Engine Driver is a popular choice for Android devices, while ThrottleCard provides an option for Apple devices.

For computer-based control, DCC-EX provides EX-WebThrottle, which runs in a compatible web browser and connects directly to the CSB1 via USB. More advanced computer-based applications such as JMRI can also be used.

This means you can choose between a physical handheld throttle, a phone or tablet, or a computer depending on how you prefer to operate your railway.
