Default Configuration for DCC-EX CSB1 Controllers

Default Configuration for DCC-EX CSB1 Controllers

At ACI Model Railways, we’re committed to ensuring our customers get the very best from their model railway systems. Many of you have chosen the DCC-EX CSB1 Command Station as the heart of your digital control setup, and we know how important it is to have the right configuration from the start.

This blog is designed to provide a default configuration for the CSB1 controller, so that customers who want to update their system can do so with confidence—even if you are unsure about the installed devices or the best settings.

Why We’re Sharing This

Over time, we’ve found that some customers wish to re-flash or update their CSB1 with the latest software from DCC-EX. However, many aren’t aware of the specific hardware that’s inside their controller—such as which motor shield, WiFi module, or interface is installed. This can make it difficult to know what to select during setup.

To make things easier, we’re providing a ready-to-use default configuration that matches the CSB1 units supplied by ACI Model Railways. This way, you can update your system with confidence, knowing it will work seamlessly with your controller.

Default CSB1 Configuration (ACI Model Railways)

Download the config files from ACI Model Railways here and save them to your computer. These can then be added when re-flashing the CommandStation by unzipping the file to a folder of your choice and then selecting "Use my existing configuration files" in the EX-Installer and pointing it to the location of the files.

How to Use This Configuration

  1. Download the EX-Installer from dcc-ex.com/EX-Installer.
  2. During installation, select "Use my existing configuration files" and point it to the unzipped CSB1 defaults folder.
  3. Unless you need to update your WiFi settings, we recommend leaving config.h unchanged, as it already contains all the essential information for your CSB1. Instead, use myAutomation.h to set up your HAL devices and add any extras needed for running your layout. We’ll cover this process in more detail in future blog posts.
  4. Once installed, your CSB1 should be ready to use immediately with no further adjustments.
  5. After updating, we recommend clicking "Backup config files" if you’ve made any changes. If you’d like to keep the original defaults untouched, you can choose an alternative location for saving your backups.
